doc. Mgr. Tomáš Hejduk, Ph.D.

"Thanks to the University of Pardubice, I can participate in world academic events, education and science, which benefit all humanity."

Doc. Mgr. Tomáš Hejduk, Ph.D. (1973) spent his childhood in Lomnice nad Popelkou, graduated from the secondary school in Jilemnice, and completed his university studies at Charles University: he studied philosophy at the Faculty of Arts, defended his doctoral thesis "From Eros to Philosophy. The character of Socrates' philosophy in his conception of filia" in philosophy and history of natural sciences at the Faculty of Science. During his doctoral studies (2000–2006), he gained teaching experience at the J. K. Tyl Grammar School in Hradec Králové. In 2019, he was appointed Associate Professor of Philosophy at the Faculty of Humanities of Charles University with his habilitation thesis "Non-political Politics in the Work of Ladislav Hejdánek".

His professional focus is ethics and political philosophy across history and the world, including Czech thinkers. He balances his predilection for antiquity and his inclination towards Plato with a permanent regard for contemporary events. His home department at the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy of the University of Pardubice is the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, which he also headed for several years. Here, he is also part of the Centre for Ethics international team. He has also served in the management of the Faculty as Vice Dean for International Relations and Doctoral Studies.

He has undertaken many international stays, the most notable of which was a one-year Fulbright Scholarship at Brown University, USA. He is a successful investigator and co-investigator of many competitive grants. In recent years, he has published studies on "Postmortal Openness to Meaning" (Postmortal Openness to Meaning | SpringerLink) and "Decency and Love" (https://rdcu.be/cIzmm).

Associate Professor Hejduk lives in Hradec Kralové, devoted to his family with two children, and is a keen table tennis player. In his spare time, he manages the estate inherited from his ancestors on the outskirts of Český ráj.
